At a time in US history when there is more pressure placed on lawmakers to curb our Second Amendment right than ever before, the Kahr Arms’ “We the People” Custom Desert Eagle 1911 pistol is a refreshingly symbolic work of art that deserves to be on every Americans’ mantle piece.
A distressed Cerakote finish gives the piece a rugged look that strangely compliments the fancy cursive “We the People” engraving. What’s most impressive is the fact that the grips are engraved with about 40 signatures from the Constitution.
In the wake of the regrettable #NeverAgain movement with its call for sweeping gun control, this pistol sends the message that Americans are not about to surrender their right to bear arms because of a random act of violence.
As the side of the gun reads, “Our right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
We’ve already established that this handgun is a veritable show pony, but how does it stack up against other pistols of its ilk?
This 1911 in 9mm was introduced at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas back in January, but it wasn’t the only 1911 that debuted there. The Browning Black Label 1911-380 Pro Stainless was another one and it is every bit as attractive, boasting stylish zebra-patterned grips and bar-dot combat sights.
The Black Label Pro is chambered for the .380 Auto whereas the “We the People” pistol is chambered for .45 ACP. Most avid shooters can agree that the .45 leaves something to be desired, particularly being limited to standard pressure ammo. Those who have owned a .45 invariably end up trading up in caliber.
This is not to say that the “We the People” pistol is weak or inferior in terms of fire power. On the contrary, it bites back and it bites back hard. But this is not ideal for fans of continuous shooting sessions. It can wreak havoc on your hand joints which makes it good for concealed carry, not for steady plinking or target practice.
Compared to a list of the best 1911 9mm pistols, it’s fair to say that the “We the People” pistol is…meh…okay. It’s neither the best 1911 on the market nor the worst. Its bull barrel ensures accuracy when firing and makes for less recoil than some other 1911s, but it lacks the ambidextrous thumb safety of the Black Label Pro.
For those who look for ergonomics in a handgun, the “We the People” 1911 has comfortable, grooved grips, but little else to recommend it for the regular shooter. It’s durable and lightweight enough, but not nearly as lightweight as the Black Label Pro which comes in at just 18 ounces.
Furthermore, Kahr Arms gets little love from people on gun-related forums, although at least one Reddit user has said that their guns function flawlessly.
At the end of the day, it’s up to each individual to decide for themselves what pistol is right for them, but if you’re looking for a piece that has something to say, this is the sidearm for you.
